Jessica Martin
Jessica is a former Teachers
College, Columbia University Reading and Writing Project Staff Member. She spent
10 years in the classroom and has taught both primary and upper grades before joining
the project in 2003. Through her work at Teachers College, Jessica has
consulted on K-8 reading and writing workshops in schools across the country.
While supporting teachers with workshop teaching in New York public schools,
Jessica trained with and worked alongside such renowned educators as Lucy
Calkins, Kathy Collins, Carl Anderson, Katie Wood Ray, Georgia Heard, Lester
Laminack, and Ellin Keene. Upon
returning to the Los Angeles area, Jessica continued to work part-time for the
TCRWP and as a Faculty Resident Advisor and Field Supervisor in Local District
7 for the Teacher Education Program, Center X at UCLA. Currently, Jessica is a
Co-Founding Director of Growing Educators, an organization created and
committed to innovative and collaborative professional development for
educators and improving literacy instruction for all students in the Greater
Los Angeles area.
Renee Houser
Renee is a former Teachers
College, Columbia University Staff Member and Co-Founder of Growing Educators.
Renee taught at PS 126 in NYC where her classroom was filled with students of
diverse learning needs. She worked closely with Dan Ling Fu, Shelly Harwayne
& Lucy Calkins as renegades of innovative instruction. During her classroom
experience she had the opportunity to study at Bank Street College with Mel
Levine of Schools Attuned & All Kinds of Minds. She was also honored to be
one of the first cohorts of the Cosby Scholars. While at the Project, she
taught as an adjunct professor, led administrative think tanks and created
curriculum with literacy coaches from across the city, nationally and
internationally. She earned Master’s Degrees from Old Dominion University and
Fordham University. |
